Roberto
Bernardi is an Italian painter born in 1974. He began painting at a very young
age. He moved to Rome and worked as a restorer in the church of San Francesco a
Ripa (side note: I went there this summer and saw Bernini’s Beata Ludovica
Albertoni which was incredibly beautiful!). His artwork has been displayed all
over Europe and the United States. He has received much recognition and in 2010
the front cover of Art and Antiques magazine, the most prestigious US art
magazine, was dedicated to him.
His style changed from landscapes
to portraits to photorealism. Bernardi’s artwork consists mostly of candy,
food, and glassware. I think he captures reflection and texture beautifully.
His compositions are unique and unusual, especially the paintings of
dishwashers and plates in the sink. He gives a scene that is so mundane so much
character.
