Douglas
Newton paints everyday objects: fruit, food, toys, and household items. His
goal in each oil painting is to emphasize light, color, texture, and
atmosphere. His series of candy wrappers experiment with the transparency of
wrappers and how they show reflection among other objects. He graduated from
Stanford University and currently resides in Brooklyn.
I find his
series on candy inspiring for my senior seminar project. I love how he paints
the reflections and plays with the colors to show texture. The composition of
each piece is very close up and cropped which I find appealing.
