Robert C.
Jackson was born in 1964 in Kinston, North Carolina. Growing up, his family
traveled from state to state, contributing to his wide range of job choices. He
attended the University of Delaware with Bachelors in Electrical Engineering. During
this time, his girlfriend gave him basic paints. With this, he took a few art
classes and painted at night while he worked and went to school during the day.
He did not know what he wanted to major in so he decided to major in “the
hardest thing” so that way he’d be able to do anything. It wasn't until later
that he switched over and started pursuing an art career. Currently, Jackson
resides in Pennsylvania.
His paintings that have been
displayed nationally are of contemporary still life. They consist of balloon
animals, watermelons, and other colorful, playful, objects. Jackson’s paintings
arise from ideas in his sketch book. He actually sets up these bizarre
still-lifes to paint. Jackson will usually spend up to 12 hours a day in his
studio, which sounds exhausting. He wants the viewer to see the symbolism in
his object, often depicting themes of war, despite the playful manner of the
objects.
