Ria Hills is a self taught artist born in the Netherlands
but raised in New York. Growing up, she gained her inspiration from Georgia O’Keeffe
and Maxfield Parrish. Her artwork has been displayed throughout America and
Europe. Hills is part of The Daily Painters, in which she paints small works
almost every day. These small pieces are affordable if they sell but more
importantly, discipline her skill in painting.
Many of her
works are inspired by dreams, songs, or words she encounters. Many of her pieces
require a reference photo in order to create her vision. Her subjects vary from
food, people, and places but her favorite subjects involve food or pets. Her
artwork is either paint or pastel.
I love her
wide variety in subjects. Many artists find one subject or concept to draw from
and stick with that for a very long time. A lot of what I have been taught at
CNU is based off of that idea but I am not the kind of person that is able to stick
to one thing for so long. I find it refreshing to see a professional working
artist who paints as she pleases without having an element of unity within her
pieces.
